Tirana to Prizren by Rental Car: Crossing Into Kosovo

Drive from Tirana to Prizren in Kosovo with an Albanian rental car: route on the Nation's Road, border at Morinë, documents, cross-border fee and what to see.

From Tirana to Prizren in About Three Hours

Prizren is Kosovo's most beautiful town: an Ottoman old centre on a river, a fortress above it and the best qebapa in the region. The motorway from Tirana makes it an easy day trip or an overnight stop.

Route

  • Tirana → Milot → Kukës on the A1 "Rruga e Kombit" (Nation's Road), a modern motorway with long tunnels
  • Border crossing: Morinë (Albania) / Vërmica (Kosovo)
  • Distance: about 200 km
  • Time: around 3 hours, plus the border

    • The A1 has a toll at the Kalimash tunnel. Keep some cash or a card ready.

    Taking a Rentalux Car to Kosovo

    Kosovo is one of the three countries where our cars may go, together with North Macedonia and Montenegro. What you need:

  • Written approval from Rentalux — ask when you book or at pickup
  • Cross-border fee: €60 per country
  • Green Card insurance: bought separately (at the border if needed)
  • Documents: passport or ID, driving license and the rental papers

    • Crossing without approval is a €200 penalty and voids all protection, so always tell us first. Read the full rental rules.

    What to See in Prizren

  • Stone Bridge and Shadervan square — the heart of the old town
  • Prizren Fortress — a short climb for the best view over the town
  • Sinan Pasha Mosque and the Orthodox Church of Our Lady of Ljeviš (UNESCO)
  • Dokufest — an international documentary festival every August

    • Returning in Kosovo?

    Returns outside Albania are possible with a surcharge (€150 plus one-way fees). Most travellers simply drive back to Tirana.

    Combine It

    From Prizren it is about an hour and a half to Prishtina. Or loop back through Kukës and the Drin valley.
